Embraer, a Brazilian aerospace manufacturer, is exploring opportunities to expand its supply chain in India, with a focus on defense, commercial aviation, and executive jet businesses. A delegation from the company recently visited India to assess potential suppliers for components such as aerostructures, machining, sheet metal, composites, forgings, wire harnesses, and hardware and software development.
According to Roberto Chaves, Executive Vice-President of Global Procurement and Supply Chain at Embraer, the visit aimed to identify viable manufacturers and systems developers in India to support the company’s global operations.
Currently, Embraer has over 44 aircraft in operation in India, spanning its commercial aviation, executive jet, and defense segments. Among these, the Indian Government and Indian Air Force operate five VIP jets and three EMB 145 AEW “Netra” aircraft, respectively.
Embraer is also positioning itself for participation in the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program. The company has partnered with Mahindra to offer the C-390 Millennium transport aircraft. This collaboration, announced in February 2024, includes plans for a localized supply chain program and potentially establishing an assembly line in India if the C-390 is selected.
