Embraer, a Brazil-based aerospace company, has announced the formation of a wholly owned subsidiary in India, with its corporate office located in AeroCity, New Delhi. The company stated that the move is aimed at expanding its presence across defence, commercial aviation, business aviation, services and support, and urban air mobility segments.
The subsidiary will focus on strengthening Embraer’s operations in India by establishing teams in corporate functions as well as procurement, supply chain, and engineering. Embraer currently has nearly 50 aircraft and 11 aircraft types operating in India, spanning commercial, defence, and business aviation sectors.
“India is a key market for Embraer, and this expansion demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the country. We are excited to deepen our collaboration with the Indian aerospace and defense industry, leveraging our expertise and technology to contribute to the nation’s growth and Make in India efforts,” said Francisco Gomes Neto, President & CEO of Embraer.
As part of its defence business, Embraer has partnered with Mahindra Defence Systems through a memorandum of understanding signed in February 2024 to explore a joint bid for the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft program. The proposal includes the C-390 Millennium, a multi-mission aircraft with a maximum payload of 26 tons, a cruise speed of 470 knots, and operational capabilities such as troop transport, medical evacuation, and aerial refueling.
In the commercial segment, Embraer highlighted its E-Jets family of aircraft, which are positioned for regional and small narrowbody operations. Indian airline Star Air operates E175 and ERJ145 aircraft, with the E-Jets intended to support air connectivity in tier two and three cities.
In India, the Indian Air Force and Border Security Force operate Embraer Legacy 600 aircraft for official transport. The Indian Air Force also operates the ‘Netra’ airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft based on the Embraer ERJ145 platform.
Embraer will also be participating in the IATA Annual General Meeting in New Delhi in 2025 as part of its continued engagement with the Indian aviation sector.
Embraer is an aerospace company based in Brazil with operations in commercial and executive aviation, defence and security, and agricultural aviation. Since its founding in 1969, Embraer has delivered more than 9,000 aircraft. The company has manufacturing and support facilities across the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Europe.
