A new 150-kilowatt rooftop solar power plant was inaugurated at the Geological Survey of India Training Institute (GSITI) in Hyderabad. The plant is designed to meet 75% of the institute’s energy needs and is expected to save approximately Rs 30 lakh annually. The project is part of a broader effort to promote renewable energy use in government institutions and reduce carbon footprints.
The solar power plant was inaugurated by Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, during an event held at the M. S. Krishnan Auditorium. The minister highlighted the importance of renewable energy for environmental responsibility and energy efficiency in public institutions.
In addition to the solar plant inauguration, the event included a sapling plantation and a facility tour where dignitaries learned about the plant’s technical aspects. S. D. Patbhaje, Additional Director General of the Geological Survey of India (Southern Region), emphasized the significance of the project in advancing sustainable development goals.
The plant is seen as a potential model for future government-led renewable energy initiatives in India.
