ArcelorMittal-Nippon Steel (AM/NS) plans to invest approximately USD 16.8 billion in an integrated steel plant in Nakkapalli mandal, Anakapalli district, Andhra Pradesh. The project will be executed in two phases: the first phase involves an investment of USD 7.1 billion for a production capacity of 7.3 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA), and the second phase entails an additional USD 9.7 billion to increase capacity by 10.5 MMTPA.
The facility is expected to generate approximately 85,000 jobs, with 25,000 direct and 60,000 indirect employment opportunities. The Andhra Pradesh government has offered 1,800 acres of land adjacent to the Nakkapalli bulk drug park for the project’s first phase, with an additional 2,000 acres sought for the second phase.
AM/NS India currently operates an iron slurry pipeline between Kirandul in Chhattisgarh and Visakhapatnam Port, used for transporting iron ore. There are plans to extend this pipeline to the new steel plant site.
The first phase of the steel plant is expected to be completed by January 2029, with the second phase anticipated by 2033.
