Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) launched the second frigate of the Project 1135.6 Additional Follow-on Ships, named ‘Tavasya,’ on March 22, 2025, at its Goa facility. The vessel is part of a contract signed with the Ministry of Defence on January 25, 2019, for the construction of two frigates under this project. The first ship, ‘Triput,’ was launched on July 23, 2024.

The frigates are designed for surface, sub-surface, and air combat operations. Each vessel measures 124.8 meters in length, 15.2 meters in width, and has a draught of 4.5 meters. The displacement is approximately 3,600 tons, with a maximum speed of 28 knots.

According to the press release, a significant portion of the equipment, weapons, and sensors installed on the ships are of domestic origin. These include the BrahMos missile system, torpedo launchers, sonar, and auxiliary control systems. The localization of these critical components is expected to contribute to the domestic defence manufacturing sector.

The ships are also equipped with stealth features, advanced weapons and sensors, and platform management systems. The launch event was attended by officials including FOC-in-C West Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh.
