Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory Pvt. Ltd. (JTRF), a subsidiary of Jupiter Wagons Limited, has secured land in Haldiapada, Khordha, Odisha, for a railwheel and axle forging plant. The company plans to invest INR 25 billion in phases to develop the facility, which is expected to produce 100,000 forged wheelsets annually. Around 50% of the production will be allocated for export, primarily to Slovakia-based Tatravagonka A.S. and other European clients.

The project is being implemented through the “Invest Odisha” program and has received land from the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) with statutory environmental clearances. The facility, located 30 km from the nearest airport, is part of the Khordha industrial zone, developed to attract multinational investments.

According to Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Wagons Limited, “The acquisition of land in Odisha marks a significant milestone in our commitment to strengthening India’s self-reliance in rail manufacturing. This facility will ensure that India not only meets its domestic railway needs but also emerges as a leading exporter of high-quality railwheel and axle components.”

Operations are expected to begin by 2027, with the plant set to generate employment opportunities and contribute to India’s railway manufacturing sector. The facility will incorporate advanced technology to support high-speed and high-load railway operations, reducing import dependency while expanding the company’s international presence.

Jupiter Wagons Limited operates manufacturing units in Kolkata, Jamshedpur, Indore, Jabalpur, and Aurangabad, with capabilities in freight wagons, locomotives, commercial vehicles, marine containers, and railway components. The company has partnerships with international firms such as DAKO-CZ (Czech Republic), Kovis d.o.o. (Slovenia), and Talleres Alegria s.a. (Spain).
