Modern Automotives Ltd has inaugurated a new plasma nitriding furnace at its manufacturing facility in Fatehgarh, Punjab, commissioned by Rubig, Austria. The equipment will support advanced surface treatment processes for applications across the automotive, aerospace, die and tooling, and medical sectors. In addition, the company marked a decade of partnership with Yamaha Motor Corp. by inaugurating a new warm forging system at its Fatehgarh facility.
The plasma nitriding furnace enables Modern Automotives to offer plasma nitriding, plasma nitrocarburizing, and plasma nitriding with subsequent oxidation. These processes are used to enhance wear and fatigue resistance for engine components, extend the lifespan of dies, molds, and cutting tools, improve corrosion resistance of aerospace components, and ensure biocompatibility for medical implants.
Plasma nitriding offers several operational advantages compared to gas nitriding, including precise temperature control, improved surface hardness, increased corrosion resistance, reduced friction, lower emissions, and reduced energy consumption. The process also allows treatment of complex geometries and a wider range of materials.
The newly installed warm forging system at the Fatehgarh facility expands Modern Automotives’ production capacity by 400 tons per month. According to the company, the system supports the manufacture of precision and near-net forgings. Initiatives linked to the installation include efforts toward recycling, solar power usage, and process optimization, in line with sustainability and Industry 4.0 objectives.
