JSW Infrastructure Limited has commenced operations at a newly developed private rail terminal at Kudathini in Bellary district of Karnataka, marking the commissioning of the first private rail terminal in the region. The start of operations was marked by the flag-off of the first container rake from the facility, signalling the beginning of rail-linked cargo movement from the site.

The terminal, developed by JSW Infrastructure Limited, is designed to handle both containerised and bulk cargo. The inaugural container rake was dispatched from the Kudathini terminal to Mumbai, establishing a direct rail link between eastern Karnataka and one of India’s major consumption and logistics hubs. Officials from the company and Indian Railways were present at the flag-off event.

Spread over more than 80 acres, the Kudathini rail terminal has been planned as a multi-cargo logistics facility. In addition to current container handling operations, the company has outlined plans to develop an Inland Container Depot (ICD) at the same location in the near future. The proposed ICD is expected to further expand the terminal’s role in facilitating domestic and export-import cargo movement through rail connectivity.

The terminal benefits from road connectivity to surrounding industrial and mining clusters, which is expected to improve last-mile logistics efficiency for customers in the region. The facility is positioned to serve cargo catchment areas including Vijayanagara, Hospete, Gangavati, Bellary and other industrial zones across eastern Karnataka. These areas generate significant movement of raw materials and finished goods, much of which has traditionally relied on road transport.

By enabling a shift from road-based transportation to rail-led logistics, the Kudathini terminal is expected to support more efficient cargo movement over longer distances. Rail transport typically allows higher load aggregation and reduced congestion on highways, particularly for bulk and containerised freight moving to ports and major markets.

The commissioning of the Kudathini rail terminal forms part of JSW Infrastructure’s broader strategy to expand its logistics footprint beyond port operations and strengthen multimodal connectivity across key industrial corridors. The company continues to focus on developing rail-linked infrastructure to support cargo evacuation, improve supply chain efficiency, and provide integrated logistics solutions to customers.

JSW Infrastructure Limited operates ports, terminals, and logistics assets across India, with a focus on handling bulk, break-bulk, and container cargo. The company is part of the JSW Group and is involved in developing transport infrastructure aimed at supporting industrial and trade growth across multiple regions of the country.
