Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR Airport), operated by Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), has partnered with Menzies Aviation to launch a new domestic cargo terminal. The facility spans 245,000 square feet and has a peak handling capacity of approximately 360,000 metric tons, with potential expansion to 400,000 metric tons.

Located on a seven-acre site, the terminal is equipped with 42 truck docks, over 400 cargo bins, conveyors integrated with X-ray machines, and around 30 unit load device (ULD) build-up and breakdown stations. The facility also includes real-time data capture through 40 handheld terminals and self-service kiosks for agents.

The terminal incorporates digital solutions such as real-time shipment tracking, data analytics tools, and barcode-integrated communication systems for improved operational efficiency. It is also designed to handle specialized cargo, including perishables, valuables, live animals, dangerous goods, and radioactive materials.

Built in compliance with Indian Green Building Council standards, the facility includes eco-friendly features such as skylighting, advanced ventilation, water conservation systems, and energy-efficient infrastructure.

According to a press release from BIAL, Satyaki Raghunath, COO of Bangalore International Airport Limited, stated that the terminal aligns with the airport’s plans for sustainable growth and enhanced cargo operations. Charles Wyley, EVP Middle East, Africa & Asia at Menzies Aviation, highlighted the terminal’s scalability in response to India’s air cargo market growth, which is projected to reach 5.8 million tonnes by 2029.
