Naxatra Labs Private Limited, a deeptech motor and controller manufacturer, has raised USD 3 million in a Pre-Series A funding round led by Rainmatter by Zerodha. The capital raise marks the company’s transition from early commercialisation to scaled manufacturing, with a focus on motors and controllers for electric vehicles (EVs), agriculture equipment, power tools and industrial applications.
The round also saw participation from existing investors Mohit Tandon, Himanshu Aggarwal, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Sunil Kalra and Aloke Bajpai, along with Narayan, former research and development lead at Ather. New investors joining the round include Anupam Jalote, Soumitra Sharma and Hemant Daga, among others. The company acknowledged earlier seed-stage backing from GVFL, Rajnish Kumar and MSD Prasad.
Founded by Abhilash Maurya, Arnav Biswas and Piyush Verma, Naxatra Labs designs and manufactures electric motors and motor controllers in-house. The company works across two motor architectures: axial flux motors and radial flux motors. Its axial flux product line is positioned for applications requiring higher torque density and compact form factors, while the radial flux series targets cost-sensitive, high-volume segments such as electric two-wheelers.
Naxatra’s axial flux motors are designed for three-wheelers and industrial applications, with the company stating efficiency levels above 94 percent. Its radial flux motors are aimed at electric scooters and motorcycles, with power ratings ranging from 2.2 kilowatts to 5.5 kilowatts. Alongside motors, the company develops motor controllers that manage power delivery and thermal performance.
Manufacturing operations are based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, with facilities located in the Paldi Kankaj industrial area. A second production facility was inaugurated in August 2025 to support the planned scale-up. Naxatra states that it follows an end-to-end manufacturing approach, covering electromagnetic design, simulation, assembly and testing, with the objective of reducing dependence on imported sub-components.
The company traces its origins to work on hybrid drones around 2020–2021, where the founding team began developing lightweight axial flux motors for in-house use. This effort later evolved into a full-scale motor manufacturing business as the founders identified broader demand in the EV sector. Naxatra was incubated at the International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Technology (iCreate) in Gujarat.
Naxatra Labs reports that it has moved from research and development into commercial production, supplying motors to domestic original equipment manufacturers and export customers. It has also filed multiple patents related to motor design and cooling technologies. The company is additionally researching ferrite-based motor technologies as an alternative to rare-earth magnets.
“Motors are part of everything. They consume more than 50% of the electricity produced world. At Naxatra Labs, we are picking most impactful markets and building products for them. The key differentiator will always be tech and scale will be the world. It is a day 0 for us,” said Abhilash Maurya, Cofounder and Chief Executive Officer of Naxatra Labs.
