Shakti Pumps (India) Limited, a manufacturer of solar and submersible pumping systems, is in the process of expanding its manufacturing capacities across pumps, motors, inverters, and solar structures under a capital expenditure programme of INR 17 billion.

The capex plan also includes setting up a 2.2 gigawatt solar domestic content requirement (DCR) cell and photovoltaic module manufacturing facility in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Shakti Energy Solutions Limited, and establishing a new plant under Shakti EV Mobility Private Limited for manufacturing electric vehicle (EV) motors, controllers, and chargers.

Of the total investment, INR 12 billion has been allocated to the solar DCR cell and module facility, while INR 2.5 billion each is planned for doubling capacities in pumps, motors, inverters, and solar structures, and for developing the EV component business. The solar cell and module project is being developed on 113 acres of land allotted by the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation.

Shakti Pumps currently operates four integrated manufacturing units at Pithampur. The main unit manufactures 350,000 pumps and motors annually, while the SEZ unit produces 150,000 stainless-steel submersible pumps primarily for exports. The electronic and control division has an installed capacity of 400,000 variable frequency drives (VFDs) and inverters, and the structures unit produces 200,000 solar mounting structures per year. The ongoing expansion is aimed at doubling output across these facilities.

The company’s research and development centre, certified by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India, and supported by the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, focuses on high-efficiency motor and controller technologies. Shakti Pumps has filed 29 patents and received 15 so far.

The company reported an order book of INR 13 billion, comprising contracts under the PM-KUSUM and Magel Tyala Saur Urja Yojana schemes in Maharashtra, and projects from the Department of Agriculture in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana Renewable Energy Department, and Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam.
