Luminous Power Technologies has commissioned a lithium-ion battery assembly line with an annual production capacity of 500 MWh at its manufacturing facility in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. The facility has been set up to manufacture standalone lithium-ion battery packs, stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and automotive battery packs for e-rickshaw applications, expanding the company’s manufacturing presence in energy storage and electric mobility segments.
The new assembly line integrates robotic automation and precision-led manufacturing processes aimed at ensuring consistent quality, safety, and performance across lithium-ion battery products. The company stated that the facility is designed to support a wide range of applications across residential, commercial and industrial, and electric mobility markets.
The assembly line can produce single battery packs with capacities ranging from 1.2 kWh to 16 kWh, with system-level scalability up to 1 MWh. This configuration enables deployment across diverse use cases, including stationary energy storage and automotive applications such as e-rickshaws.
“At Luminous, manufacturing is a core pillar of our brand promise to deliver reliable, high-quality energy solutions at scale. The inauguration of this advanced lithium-ion battery assembly line strengthens our integrated manufacturing and global supply chain capabilities, while reinforcing our focus on precision, localisation, and future-ready operations,” said Rajiv Ganju, Senior Vice President, Manufacturing and Global Supply Chain, Luminous Power Technologies.
The company said the assembly line includes end-to-end digital traceability for every battery pack, aligned with the latest Battery Aadhaar requirements. This enables lifecycle-level tracking of battery products and is intended to support regulatory compliance, transparency, and monitoring across their operational life.
“The new lithium-ion battery assembly line marks the beginning of a long-term journey for Luminous as we continue to strengthen our capabilities in next-generation energy technologies. Designed to support standalone battery packs, stationary BESS, and e-rickshaw applications, the facility integrates advanced automation with multiple first-of-its-kind quality evaluation technologies,” said Ganesh Moorthi, Chief Technology Officer, Luminous Power Technologies.
The company stated that the facility is expected to support renewable energy storage, electric vehicle adoption, and grid applications, while improving manufacturing efficiency through automation. It also said the assembly line has been designed to support circular economy practices through the recycling and reuse of battery components.
Luminous Power Technologies operates in power backup, energy storage, and energy management solutions, with manufacturing facilities in India serving residential, commercial, industrial, and mobility segments.
