Hitachi Energy India Limited held a ground-breaking ceremony at its Savli facility in Vadodara, Gujarat, marking the start of an expansion project for its high-voltage product manufacturing operations. The expansion is intended to support rising domestic demand for power infrastructure and reinforce India’s role in the global supply chain for high-voltage equipment.

The Savli facility manufactures gas insulated switchgear (GIS), hybrid switchgear (process bus and switchgear assembly, or PASS), and dead tank circuit breakers rated up to 420 kilovolts. The expansion is aimed at increasing capacity for these products, which are used in transmission and substation applications supporting grid reliability, safety, and digitalisation.

The project will strengthen the company’s ability to deliver critical energy infrastructure to customers across India while supporting the development of smarter and more efficient power networks. The investment aligns with its strategy to expand local manufacturing capabilities to serve both domestic and international markets.

The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by Venu Nuguri, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for India and South Asia at Hitachi Energy and Managing Director of Hitachi India, and Markus Heimbach, Managing Director of the High Voltage Products business unit at Hitachi Energy. The company did not disclose the investment value or the additional capacity to be created as part of the expansion.

“Today’s ground-breaking ceremony in Savli, Vadodara, for our high-voltage products expansion project is a powerful milestone, signaling our unwavering confidence in India’s role as a critical pillar of the global energy value chain,” Nuguri said. He added that the Savli operation is among the company’s largest manufacturing bases in the country and plays a role in designing and producing transformers and high-voltage products for power systems.

Nuguri also said that Vadodara’s established industrial ecosystem and engineering talent base make it a suitable location for advanced manufacturing activities. He noted that continued investment in local production is intended to support India’s energy transition while addressing sustainability and grid modernisation requirements.

Hitachi Energy stated that the expanded facility will contribute to the production of equipment designed for safer and more eco-efficient high-voltage systems, including applications for smart grids. The company emphasised that workforce capability remains central to its manufacturing strategy, with engineering and shop-floor teams supporting ongoing capacity and technology upgrades.

Hitachi Energy India Limited is engaged in the manufacture and supply of power grid and energy infrastructure equipment, including transformers, high-voltage switchgear, and automation solutions, serving utilities, industries, and infrastructure developers in India and export markets.
