Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited will complete five offshore support vessels (OSVs) for San Maritime India Pvt. Ltd. at its shipyard in Pipavav, Gujarat. San Maritime has begun docking the vessels at the facility for completion under Indian Register of Shipping (IR) Class to serve offshore industry requirements.

The hulls were acquired by Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) as part of its acquisition plan of Reliance Naval and Engineering Limited through the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) process. The hulls were subsequently acquired by Kakinada-based San Maritime from SDHI, and the revived shipyard will now complete the vessels.

The company stated that completion of the five OSVs is expected to strengthen Indian-flag tonnage and offshore capability, while supporting maritime employment and local vendors within the shipbuilding ecosystem. Construction of the vessels had originally commenced under the previous management, and the current project marks their continuation under the new ownership.

SDHI’s shipyard, located on the west coast of India, includes a dry dock measuring 662 metres by 65 metres, a wet basin measuring 340 metres by 60 metres, and a 1.2-kilometre dedicated waterfront for berthing, docking and launching of vessels. The facility is positioned to undertake large-scale shipbuilding and heavy fabrication activities.

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited, formerly known as Reliance Naval and Engineering Limited, is a shipbuilding and heavy fabrication company operating on India’s west coast. The company operates a fabrication capacity of 164,000 tonnes per annum and manages what it describes as the country’s largest dry dock.
