Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited has secured a defence export order from the Government of the Sultanate of Oman to supply a naval training ship for the Royal Navy of Oman. The vessel is intended to support advanced naval training and maritime operations, with delivery expected within 18 months.

The contract involves the construction of a purpose-built training ship measuring 104.25 metres in length, with a beam of 13.88 metres and a displacement of up to 3,500 tonnes. The vessel will include classrooms, training offices, accommodation facilities, and an auditorium designed to train up to 70 officer cadets at sea.

The company said the ship will be equipped with a modern navigation system, an advanced communications suite, and facilities to support helicopter operations. The platform is designed to enable a range of training and operational activities for the Royal Navy of Oman.

“This contract stands as a testament to our advanced technical expertise and world-class shipbuilding capabilities that meet global benchmarks,” said V.K. Saxena, Chief Executive Officer of Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited. “Earning the confidence of the Royal Navy of Oman reinforces SDHI’s commitment to excellence and drives us to consistently deliver high-quality vessels distinguished by innovation, reliability and performance,” he added.

The order adds to India’s defence shipbuilding exports at a time when domestic shipyards are seeking to expand their presence in international markets. The company noted that the project reflects growing overseas demand for indigenously built naval platforms.

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited, formerly known as Reliance Naval and Engineering Limited, is engaged in shipbuilding and heavy fabrication. The company operates a shipyard on India’s west coast with a dry dock measuring 662 metres by 65 metres and has an annual fabrication capacity of 164,000 tonnes.
