The Indian Light Tank (ILT) has successfully completed a round of firing trials at an altitude exceeding 4,200 meters, demonstrating accurate results across multiple ranges, according to a press release issued by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). This trial follows Phase I evaluations conducted in desert conditions in September 2024.

The ILT, a 25-ton armored fighting vehicle, has been designed by the DRDO’s Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment in Chennai in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro Precision Engineering & Systems, which manufactures the vehicle. The tank is intended for high-altitude applications to meet the operational requirements of the Indian Armed Forces.

The airlift capability of the ILT, which allows for rapid deployment to remote and inaccessible areas, was also demonstrated by the Indian Air Force. These internal performance trials, supported by the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force, form part of a broader series of evaluations. Further trials are planned before the vehicle is offered for user trials.

Development of the ILT, from concept to high-altitude testing, was completed in three years.
