Epic Group, a Hong Kong-based apparel manufacturer, is investing INR 3.77 billion in a green manufacturing facility in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The facility will use low-emission TMT bars supplied by ARS Steel, which recently delivered its first batch of “green steel” to Trimetro Group for the project’s construction.
ARS Steel’s TMT bars have an emission intensity of 0.59 tCO₂ per ton of finished steel, which is below India’s green steel classification threshold of 1.6 tCO₂/tfs. The national average emission intensity is around 2.5 tCO₂/tcs. The adoption of these TMT bars is estimated to reduce the building’s embodied emissions by approximately 20% compared to traditional blast furnace-produced steel.
The green steel initiative is supported by sentra.world, a technology firm specializing in industrial decarbonization. Sentra.world provides real-time emissions monitoring and AI-driven quality control to ensure transparency in the steel supply chain.
“Sustainability is central to our operations at Epic. By collaborating with ARS Steel and utilizing the expertise of sentra.world, we’ve made a significant stride in diminishing our carbon footprint without compromising on quality, thereby establishing new benchmarks for eco-friendly construction in India. This initiative underscores our dedication to fostering a sustainable future, not only in the fashion sector but for the entire planet,” said Ranjan Mahtani, Founder & Chairman, Epic Group.
“ARS Steel is proud to supply India’s first green steel TMT bars, setting a new benchmark for net-zero buildings. Our commitment to quality and sustainability drives us to create steel that not only strengthens structures but also reduces environmental impact. This collaboration with Epic and sentra.world marks a significant step towards a cleaner, greener future,” said Ashwani Kumar Bhatia, Managing Director, ARS Steel.
“Our mission at sentra.world is to enable industries to measure, mitigate, and monetise their carbon emissions using technology. Facilitating this green steel supply chain has been a milestone moment for us. By embedding transparency and traceability into the process, we’re not just reducing emissions but also setting a new precedent for sustainable procurement in India,” said Harsh Choudhry, Co-founder & CEO, sentra.world.
ARS Steel states that its manufacturing process incorporates over 98% recycled steel, renewable energy, and no fossil fuels. The company produces ARS 550D TMT bars, which are designed for high ductility and strength with low sulfur and phosphorus content.
Epic Group’s upcoming facility aims to achieve net-zero energy and water usage. The project aligns with broader industry efforts to reduce carbon footprints in construction and manufacturing.
