PES Engineers Pvt. Ltd. has begun manufacturing pressure‑shaft steel liners for the NHPC Limited‑led Dibang Multipurpose Project (2,880 MW). The company recently set up a fabrication facility at Dambuk, Lower Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh, earmarked for this purpose. The plant has a rated capacity of 1,000 metric tonnes per month, aimed at streamlining local production and installation of key hydro‑mechanical components. The production line was inaugurated by L. K. Thripati, Head of Project, Dibang Multipurpose Project.
Strategically located near Munli village and the project site, this new unit supports the massive infrastructure plan featuring a 278 m high dam, which is set to become India’s tallest concrete‑gravity dam and the world’s tallest roller‑compacted concrete (RCC) structure. The project includes 12 × 240 MW underground generating units, with an annual output of approximately 11,223 million units (MUs) directed into India’s Northern Grid.
The Dibang Multipurpose Project commenced execution in February 2023 at an estimated cost of INR 318.76 billion. Designed with a 108‑month construction window, the Dibang facility is slated for commissioning by February 2032. According to NHPC disclosures, the scheme will generate direct employment for approximately 500 workers during construction and around 300 staff after operations begin.
The Dambuk fabrication hub is intended not only to cater to the Dibang project but also to serve other large hydropower projects across Northeast India, enhancing logistics and precision in fabrication amid challenging terrain. PES Engineers describes the facility as a technological leap in on‑site manufacturing, emphasizing the importance of high‑precision fabrication of pressure‑shaft liners—critical components in hydropower infrastructure.
PES Engineers Pvt. Ltd., which has prior experience in hydro‑mechanical fabrication and installations in difficult geographies, particularly in India’s northeast, is positioning this development as part of its strategic expansion in the region.
