Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced an investment in OMC Power Private Limited, an India-based distributed power and mini-grid company, to support the launch of a leasing business for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) devices using Honda’s portable and swappable batteries. The initiative is scheduled to begin in January 2026.
Honda and OMC Power have been jointly testing UPS devices powered by the Honda Mobile Power Pack e: in Uttar Pradesh since 2023. The demonstration confirmed that repurposed batteries can provide a stable backup power source while reducing emissions from diesel generators widely used in areas with unstable grids.
Under the new business model, Honda Power Pack Energy India Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Honda engaged in battery-sharing services, will supply OMC Power with Honda Mobile Power Pack e: units. OMC Power will integrate these battery packs into its UPS devices and lease them to households, small businesses, schools, and community facilities. The UPS units will store electricity from the grid when available and supply power during outages or fluctuations.
“Honda believes that electrified mobility products can contribute not only as a means of transportation but also to the advancement of energy systems for customers and local communities,” said Minoru Kato, Chief Officer for Motorcycle and Power Products Operations and Head of the Motorcycle Business Unit, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. He said Honda aims to establish a resource-circulating value chain by repurposing end-of-life electric motorcycle batteries.
“This partnership with Honda marks a pivotal moment in OMC’s journey,” said Rohit Chandra, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of OMC Power Private Limited. He said the collaboration integrates innovative energy storage solutions into distributed power systems to support local innovation and energy security in India.
OMC Power Private Limited is an Indian renewable energy company providing distributed power generation and mini-grid services to rural and semi-urban regions. Honda Motor Co., Ltd., headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, is a global manufacturer of automobiles, motorcycles, and power equipment.
