Berger Becker Coatings Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture between Beckers Group of Sweden and Berger Paints of India, has set up a new resin plant in India as part of a wider investment programme undertaken over the past two years at its facilities in Nagpur and Goa. The investments are aimed at strengthening safety and sustainability measures while supporting the company’s expansion in coil coatings and its product offerings for the agriculture, construction, and earth moving (ACE) sector.
The new resin plant is scheduled to begin producing its first batches within the next few weeks. The development marks a key step in the company’s efforts to increase its manufacturing capabilities for coil coatings.
“We have established a new resin plant dedicated to coil coatings. The plant is set to commence production of its first batches within the next few weeks,” said Christophe Sabas, CEO of Beckers Group. He added that the initiatives are aligned with the company’s ambition to strengthen its position in coil coatings. “Our investment initiatives are closely aligned with our ambition to become the undisputed leader in coil coatings,” he said.
The expansion centres on the Nagpur facility in MIDC Butibori, where coil coating paint capacity is being increased from about 7,200 metric tonnes per annum to roughly 24,000 metric tonnes per annum. As part of the programme, the company has set up a new resin plant dedicated to coil coatings with a planned capacity of 14,000 metric tonnes per annum. The plant enables in-house production of polyester resins, including sustainable grades made from recycled PET bottles, and reduces dependence on imports. The resin plant is scheduled to begin producing its first batches within the next few weeks.
The facility in Pilerne, Goa, is also undergoing expansion, with an additional 3,600 metric tonnes of capacity. These upgrades are intended to support demand for pre-painted steel used in construction applications such as metro stations and airports, as well as home appliances. They also form part of the company’s push into coatings for the ACE segment, where it is introducing high-performance liquid coatings designed for heavy machinery, including products aimed at improving durability and reducing volatile organic compound emissions.
Sabas noted that the progress achieved is the result of the work of the Indian team. “We are extremely proud of the impressive achievements delivered by our Indian team at Berger Becker Coatings Pvt. Ltd., whose dedication and hard work have been instrumental in realising these advancements,” he said.
Berger Becker Coatings Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture between Beckers Group of Sweden with a 51 percent stake and Berger Paints of India with a 49 percent stake, has expanded its manufacturing footprint in India with investments in its Nagpur and Goa facilities. Established in 1997, the entity is the market leader in the Indian coil coating industry.
