BASF is expanding its dispersions production capacity at its Mangalore site in India with the addition of a new production line. The move is intended to support demand from the architectural paints, construction chemicals and paper industries, and to enhance local supply reliability.

“The expansion of our Mangalore site will strengthen synergies across BASF’s Asia Pacific manufacturing network, ensure dependable supply, and enable us to provide innovative, cost-competitive dispersion solutions to our customers in India and the region,” said Andreas Fechtenkoetter, Senior Vice President, Dispersions Asia Pacific, BASF.

BASF said that as demand for high-performance dispersions evolves, the new line is designed to manufacture advanced dispersions delivering targeted performance and sustainability benefits. The company highlighted applications across architectural coatings, construction systems, and paper and packaging segments.

In architectural applications, BASF stated that low-volatile organic compound (VOC) and low-odour technologies under its Acronal product ranges support high stain and scuff resistance while contributing to improved indoor environmental standards. For construction, the company cited dispersion technologies offering high tensile strength and elongation for waterproofing systems, as well as solutions for sealants, floor coatings and infrastructure applications. In paper and packaging, BASF referred to high-solids binders and its Basonal PLUS low Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) series aimed at enhancing coating performance and supporting sustainability objectives.

“The new line is designed to manufacture advanced dispersions that deliver targeted performance and sustainability benefits,” said Milind Joshi, Business Director, Dispersions, South Asia, BASF. “Acronal and Basonal technologies enable low-VOC, durable formulations across paints, construction, and paper applications, backed by reliable local production.”

BASF stated that India remains a key growth market, supported by demographic trends, rising consumption and infrastructure development. The company said the Mangalore expansion aligns with its regional growth strategy and strengthens collaboration within its Asia Pacific manufacturing network.

BASF’s Dispersions & Resins division develops and markets polymer dispersions, resins, additives and electronic materials used in coatings, construction, adhesives, printing, packaging, electronics and paper industries.
