Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL), in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and Guidance Tamil Nadu, has unveiled the design of the Hyundai HTWO Innovation Centre. The centre is a 65,000 sq. ft. green hydrogen research facility located at IIT Madras’ Discovery Campus in Thaiyur, Chennai. It is part of an INR 1.8 billion project, of which INR 1 billion is being funded by HMIL and the Hyundai Motor India Foundation.
The facility will include advanced research and development laboratories focused on digital twins of hydrogen infrastructure, electrolyser and fuel cell testing facilities, and industrial-scale pilot demonstrators. It aims to support India’s goals related to energy transition and the development of hydrogen technologies.
The centre is intended to operate as a national innovation hub, encouraging collaboration among academia, industry, global experts, and policymakers to advance research, manufacturing, and deployment of scalable hydrogen technologies. It will also emphasize skill development and policy innovation to build India’s hydrogen workforce.
