Renuka Equipments Pvt. Ltd. has designed, a manufacturer of industrial machinery, manufactured, and commissioned a 100-tonne capacity battery-operated Scrap Bucket Transfer Car (SBTC) for Tata Steel Ltd. at its Meramandali facility in Odisha. Powered by lithium-ion batteries, the unit is intended to offer an energy-efficient alternative to traditional scrap transport systems.
The SBTC is equipped with a low-voltage AC traction geared motor and is operated using Advanced Vehicle Control Language (AVCL) software. It includes two 7.5 kW, 48V, 3-phase motors rated at 160 Hz, and features standard electrical components such as headlights, taillights, beacon lights, and ventilation fans. According to Renuka Equipments, the SBTC consumes approximately 0.0304 kWh of energy per tonne of metal transferred and can travel 110 metres at a maximum speed of 30 metres per minute.
The company stated that the battery-operated SBTC offers lower operational costs than conventional electric or diesel-powered alternatives. Most of the components for the project were sourced domestically.
