John Cockerill, a provider of industrial engineering solutions, announced the successful production of the first coil on the Continuous Galvanizing Line 1 at Tata Steel’s Kalinganagar plant on 9 June 2025. The event marks a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between the two companies.

The galvanizing line, supplied and commissioned by John Cockerill, is intended for the production of coated automotive steels. According to the company, the startup phase was completed without any safety incidents, and the initial product met expected quality standards.

The milestone follows several months of collaboration between the engineering teams of Tata Steel and John Cockerill.

John Cockerill operates in India primarily through its subsidiary, John Cockerill India Limited, which serves as the group’s Indian hub and center of excellence for industrial activities. Incorporated in 1986 and integrated into the Belgian John Cockerill Group in 2008, the company designs, engineers, manufactures, and installs cold rolling mill complexes, processing lines, and thermal and chemical treatment plants for the steel and non-ferrous sectors.

It also supplies a broad range of equipment including galvanizing lines, annealing and color coating lines, tension leveling systems, skin pass mills, and pickling lines. In addition to its focus on steel processing, the company is active in developing advanced heat treatment technologies for aviation, forging, and casting applications, and supports hydrometallurgical processes for ore extraction.

In the energy sector, John Cockerill plans to double its green hydrogen electrolyzer manufacturing capacity in India to 2 GW by 2029. It also participates in the Indian defense industry through a joint venture with Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics (India) Pvt Ltd to manufacture turrets for the Light Tank program.

The company is headquartered in Navi Mumbai, with workshops in Hedavali and Taloja, and maintains a registered office in Andheri (East), Mumbai. John Cockerill India Limited is publicly listed and operates under a board comprising both Indian and international directors.
