Bharat Earth Movers Ltd. (BEML) has expanded its defence manufacturing infrastructure at the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) complex with the commissioning of three new production units. The new facilities aim to enhance the production and servicing capacity for Armoured Recovery Vehicles (ARVs) and other defence mobility systems.

The expansion includes two production sheds measuring 30 x 140 metres and one measuring 30 x 100 metres. These units feature integrated logistics and storage areas to support faster turnaround times, modular assembly, and system integration. According to the company, the project is expected to create over 100 skilled jobs focused on defence electronics and mechanical systems.

In addition to the new units, BEML has upgraded its Track Width Mine Plough (TWMP) facility, which supports systems used with MBT Arjun and T-90 tank platforms. A 24×7 Occupational Health Centre has also been established at the site.

BEML noted that the KGF site has previously supported the production of defence platforms such as Armoured Repair and Recovery Vehicles (ARRVs), missile launchers, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), Pontoon Bridge Systems, 50-tonne trailers, and BMP transmissions. The company added that it is working to strengthen local sourcing and supply chains to enhance its defence manufacturing and export capabilities.

BEML Ltd., formerly Bharat Earth Movers Limited, operates under the Ministry of Defence and manufactures a range of products for the defence, rail, and mining sectors. Its operations include the design, development, and production of heavy vehicles and components for both military and civilian use.
