Rolls-Royce announced plans to double its sourcing of components from India over the next five years, focusing on advanced aerospace engines, naval propulsion systems, diesel engines, and gas turbine engines. The company aims to expand its engagement with Indian suppliers as part of its broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the country’s defense sector.

According to a statement issued by Rolls-Royce, the company currently sources high-precision parts and engine components from Indian partners for its civil aerospace, defense, and power systems businesses. However, it did not disclose the total value of these procurements.

Nicola Grady-Smith, Chief Transformation Officer at Rolls-Royce, stated that India has become a key hub for global sourcing, and the company plans to expand its partnerships to support business growth. Rolls-Royce is working with existing and potential suppliers to develop capabilities for manufacturing complex engine components for global markets.

The company has established collaborations with Indian firms, including Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), Tata, Bharat Forge, and Godrej & Boyce, for manufacturing and sourcing. Rolls-Royce also operates joint ventures with HAL and Force Motors.

Alex Zino, Executive Vice President for Business Development and Future Programs at Rolls-Royce Defence, stated that India plays a significant role in the company’s long-term sourcing and strategic plans. Rolls-Royce intends to strengthen its supply chain and ecosystem capabilities, which could contribute to future co-production opportunities.

The company also highlighted that over 2,000 engineers in India are involved in its global development programs through in-house roles and outsourced agreements. Rolls-Royce has previously facilitated technology transfer for licensed production of engines in India’s defense sector.
