Thales UK and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) have signed a contract at Aero India 2025 to supply the Indian Army with Laser Beam-Riding Man-Portable Air Defence Systems (LBRM) and STARStreak High-Velocity Missiles (HVM). The deal includes the replacement of existing Russian Igla-S systems, with deliveries expected later this year.

The agreement integrates BDL into Thales’ supply chain and includes the production of Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMM). The collaboration aims to enhance interoperability between the armed forces and expand domestic production capabilities in India’s defence sector.

In a parallel development, the UK Ministry of Defence has launched a dedicated programme office to facilitate defence cooperation between the two countries. The UK-India Defence Partnership Pavilion was introduced to support bilateral initiatives.

Additionally, a partnership between the UK and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) was announced to develop an Integrated Full Electric Propulsion (IFEP) system for India’s next-generation Landing Platform Dock (LPD). A facility for the assembly and testing of Advanced Short-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (ASRAAM) is also being set up in Hyderabad.

These agreements align with India’s focus on domestic defence production and technological collaboration with international partners. The information was provided in a press release issued by Thales.
