Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. (Rafael) are moving forward with a Technical Collaboration Agreement (TCA) to enable local production of the Spike LR2, a fifth-generation anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) in India.

The agreement follows a previously signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and is expected to facilitate the transfer of manufacturing capabilities and critical technologies. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s “Make in India” program and meets the Ministry of Defence’s Indigenous Content (IC) requirements.

In addition to the Spike LR2, BDL and Rafael are also collaborating on the Spike ER2 missile. The partnership aims to establish a local production framework to support the operational requirements of the Indian Armed Forces’ helicopter fleets.

Yoav Tourgeman, CEO of Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, stated that the local production of the Spike LR2 is a significant step in strengthening India’s defense manufacturing ecosystem. A. Madhavarao, Chairman and Managing Director of BDL, highlighted the collaboration as an effort to expand BDL’s missile production portfolio and enhance the operational readiness of the Indian Armed Forces.

The Spike LR2 and Spike ER2 missile systems are intended to contribute to India’s defense capabilities by providing domestically manufactured solutions. The collaboration reflects the ongoing efforts to increase self-reliance in defense production through technology transfer and joint manufacturing initiatives.
