SWITCH Mobility Automotive Ltd., a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland and part of the Hinduja Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with electric mobility solutions provider Vertelo to deploy 1,000 electric commercial vehicles across India over the next three to five years.
Under the agreement, Vertelo will lease and fund SWITCH’s electric light commercial vehicles (eLCVs) and electric buses, making them accessible to businesses and municipalities. The initiative is expected to address challenges such as air pollution and urban congestion by promoting electric mobility in commercial transportation.
Mahesh Babu, CEO of SWITCH Mobility, stated that the collaboration aims to enable businesses to adopt sustainable transportation without significant capital investment. Vertelo CEO Sandeep Gambhir highlighted that the partnership intends to lower barriers to fleet electrification, including high upfront costs and operational challenges.
The vehicles will be integrated into Vertelo’s leasing framework, which is designed to support businesses transitioning to eco-friendly transportation solutions.
The MoU was signed during an event in Chennai, with both companies emphasizing the importance of creating a sustainable ecosystem for electric mobility in India. The partnership is positioned as a step toward facilitating broader adoption of electric vehicles in commercial sectors.
