Tata Power has announced an investment of ₹550 crore (approximately $66 million) to develop and manage renewable energy and infrastructure at Noida International Airport (NIA). The agreement, structured around two Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for wind and solar power, was signed in New Delhi by representatives from both organizations, including Sanjay Banga, President of Transmission and Distribution at Tata Power, and Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of NIA.
Under the arrangement, Tata Power Trading Company Limited will supply 10.8 megawatts (MW) of wind power to NIA through a secure asset arrangement with Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL). Additionally, TPREL will construct and manage a 13 MW solar power facility on-site at the airport, contributing to the airport’s clean energy consumption.
The partnership includes Tata Power’s commitment to developing essential dry utility infrastructure, which encompasses critical electrical components necessary for NIA’s operations. Tata Power will provide ongoing operation and maintenance services for this infrastructure over the next 25 years, aiming to support the airport’s energy requirements sustainably.
NIA’s first phase, which is projected to handle 12 million passengers annually, will be powered by renewable sources for over half of its energy needs. The airport’s capacity is expected to expand to 70 million passengers per year upon completion of all four phases.
The agreement represents a long-term commitment between Tata Power and NIA to promote sustainable energy solutions within India’s expanding aviation sector.
