Rungta Steel has announced the commencement of Ductile Iron (DI) Pipe production at its Chaliyama Steel Plant in Chaibasa, Jharkhand. This initiative marks the company’s entry into a new segment within the infrastructure sector, complementing its existing product offerings such as TMT bars, wire rods, and fly ash bricks.
DI Pipes are manufactured using molten iron treated with magnesium, enhancing their strength, flexibility, and durability. These pipes are designed for high-pressure applications, including potable water supply, sewerage systems, and industrial use. The standard product length is 5.5 meters, with sizes ranging from DN 80 to DN 1000 in class K7 to K9.
The pipes feature an internal cement mortar lining to facilitate smooth water flow while preventing corrosion and blockages. An external zinc coating provides self-healing properties to mitigate damage during transportation, and additional coatings, such as bitumen and epoxy, extend the product’s lifespan. Leak-proof joints with rubber gaskets and optional polyethylene sleeves enhance durability and functionality.
This product expansion aligns with the company’s strategy to broaden its portfolio and cater to diverse infrastructure needs. According to a press release issued by the company, the production of DI Pipes is expected to play a significant role in supporting water infrastructure projects in India.
Rungta Steel’s move into the DI Pipe market underscores its focus on leveraging advanced manufacturing techniques and stringent quality control measures to meet the demands of modern infrastructure development.
