Sembcorp Industries has signed two non-binding Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Government of Odisha. The agreements, facilitated through Sembcorp’s subsidiaries Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Private Limited and Sembcorp Development Ltd, aim to assess the development of a green hydrogen production facility and an industrial park in Odisha.

The MOUs were formalized in the presence of Singapore’s Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance, Chee Hong Tat, and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The signing occurred during a state visit by Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to India.

The proposed green hydrogen facility is expected to have a production capacity of 720,000 metric tonnes annually. The facility, to be located in Odisha, is projected to create over 2,000 jobs during its operational phase.

Sembcorp Development Ltd will also evaluate the feasibility of establishing an industrial park in the region, in collaboration with the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation.

These initiatives align with the broader framework of collaboration between Singapore and India, focusing on sustainability as one of six key areas of cooperation. Odisha’s resource availability and supportive policies were highlighted as factors contributing to its potential role in advancing low-carbon energy initiatives.

The MoUs are not anticipated to have a material impact on Sembcorp’s earnings per share or net tangible assets per share for the financial year ending December 31, 2025, according to the company’s statement.
