Suzlon Group and Torrent Power Ltd. have announced a new agreement for the installation of 486 MW of wind energy capacity in the Bhogat region of Gujarat, bringing their cumulative partnership to 1 GW of wind energy projects.

The project will involve the installation of 162 S144 wind turbine generators (WTGs), each with a rated capacity of 3 MW. These turbines will be equipped with Hybrid Lattice (HLT) Towers designed to optimize power generation, including in low-wind conditions.

According to a press release from Suzlon, the project supports India’s renewable energy goals, which include achieving 50% of electricity generation from renewable sources. The agreement also aligns with the government’s “Make in India” initiative, as Suzlon manufactures its wind turbines and components domestically.

This partnership reflects ongoing collaboration between the two companies, which have worked together over the last decade on renewable energy projects in Gujarat and Karnataka.

Suzlon Group Chief Executive Officer JP Chalasani stated that the S144 turbine’s performance in varying wind conditions has been a key factor in the partnership’s success.

Suzlon Group has installed approximately 20.9 GW of wind energy capacity across 17 countries, with ~15 GW of assets managed in India and an additional ~6 GW installed internationally, according to its most recent data.
