The Javelin Joint Venture (JJV) is assessing potential co-assembly and co-production of the Javelin anti-tank weapon system in India. The initiative involves a competitive source selection process with Indian industry partners.
As part of this effort, the JJV has renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), a state-owned enterprise specializing in weapon production and system integration. The agreement will enable an evaluation of manufacturing possibilities in India to meet potential future requirements of the Indian Ministry of Defence.
“We look forward to exploring partnership opportunities to co-produce Javelin in India,” said Dave Pantano, Javelin Joint Venture vice president and Lockheed Martin Javelin program director. He added that discussions with Indian companies have been ongoing to identify long-term partners.
Andy Amaro, president of the Javelin Joint Venture and Raytheon’s Javelin program director, stated that demand for the weapon system continues to grow and that the agreements aim to support local industry.
The Javelin missile system is developed and produced by a joint venture between Raytheon, an RTX business, and Lockheed Martin. The venture has produced more than 55,000 Javelin missiles and over 12,000 reusable Command Launch Units. The system has been procured by 25 countries.
