Collins Aerospace has established a new Engineering Development and Test Centre (EDTC) in Bengaluru to support its aviation component manufacturing and certification processes, according to a report by The Hindu Business Line. The company has invested approximately $25 million in the facility as part of a broader $200 million investment in India.

According to Collins Aerospace, the EDTC will enable local testing and qualification of aerospace components such as thrust reverser actuators, cabin lighting, and evacuation slides. The facility’s equipment is designed to simulate harsh operating conditions, including extreme temperatures, high altitudes, vibrations, and electromagnetic interference.

The company stated that conducting tests in India will allow for early identification of potential design adjustments, reducing reliance on foreign testing and certification centers, thereby saving time and costs.

Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX, currently manufactures various aviation systems in India, including seating systems, lighting systems, cargo systems, temperature sensors, communication and navigation systems, water solutions, and evacuation slides. The new test facility is expected to support all Collins business units, with plans to expand its applications across RTX businesses.

Collins Aerospace has also indicated plans to increase its sourcing from supplier partners in India, targeting a threefold growth over the next three to four years. The company cited India’s competitive manufacturing capabilities, aerospace ecosystem, and skilled workforce as key factors in its expansion strategy.
