JSW Group has announced plans to invest INR 120 billion in a copper smelter facility in Odisha, with a production capacity of 500,000 metric tons per year. The facility is expected to be operational by 2028-29.

According to the company, the smelter will source copper concentrate from Peru and Chile. JSW Group also intends to expand the facility’s capacity to 1 million metric tons by 2033-34.

In a related development, JSW Group secured a contract in January 2025 to operate two copper mines owned by Hindustan Copper for 20 years, with an option for a 10-year extension. The company committed an investment of USD 301.22 million for the project.

The copper produced from the Odisha facility is expected to support JSW Group’s planned electric vehicle and battery manufacturing operations.
