Stellantis India & Asia Pacific has initiated a three-year School Transformation Program at seven government schools near its manufacturing facility in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. The program aims to improve school infrastructure and expand access to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education for over 1,500 students.
According to the company, the initiative is being carried out in collaboration with Bhumi, a non-governmental organization. Key elements of the program include the installation of STEM laboratories, classroom furniture, RO water purification systems, and improved sanitation facilities. As part of the launch, Stellantis representatives also took part in a tree plantation drive at one of the schools.
In addition to this program, Stellantis inaugurated five new classroom blocks in the villages of Melnallathur and Adhigathur in April 2024, benefiting approximately 400 students. The company has also contributed medical equipment worth INR 2.5 million to a public health center in Kadambathur and restored two water bodies in Adhigathur. Furthermore, Stellantis constructed two 30,000-liter overhead water tanks in Adhigathur and Melnallathur villages, aiming to provide a sustained water supply to over 900 residents.
Stellantis has announced an additional investment of INR 20 billion over six years in its Citroën brand operations in Tamil Nadu. This investment, formalized through a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government in January 2024, brings the company’s total investment in the state to INR 32.5 billion.
The Thiruvallur plant, with a production capacity of 90,000 vehicles annually, manufactures both internal combustion engine and electric vehicles, including the Citroën C3 and eC3 models. In June 2024, Stellantis began exporting 1,000 eC3 electric vehicles to Indonesia and plans to expand exports to other regions in South and Southeast Asia.
Stellantis is also considering manufacturing affordable electric vehicles from its Chinese joint venture partner, Leapmotor, at the Thiruvallur facility. The company is evaluating the feasibility of introducing models such as the T03 and C10 in the Indian market.
