JSW Neo Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Energy, has signed a Pumped Hydro Storage Power Procurement Agreement (PHSPPA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for the supply of 1,500 MW / 12,000 MWh of pumped hydro energy storage. The project, located in Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, is designed for scheduled discharge of up to 8 hours daily, with a maximum continuous discharge of 6 hours, and is expected to be commissioned within six years.

The agreement has a duration of 40 years, under which JSW Neo Energy will receive a fixed capacity charge of INR 7.72 million per MW annually. Following this deal, JSW Energy’s total secured energy storage capacity stands at 28.3 GWh, including 26.4 GWh from pumped storage projects. The company is targeting 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030.

JSW Energy Limited, part of the USD 24 billion JSW Group, operates across the power generation and transmission sectors in India. Since beginning commercial operations in 2000, the company has expanded its generation capacity from 260 MW to 10 GW. It is currently constructing projects totaling 11.3 GW, with plans to reach 20 GW capacity by 2030.
