Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Limited (Hooghly CSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited, has secured a contract to construct two luxury river cruise vessels for Heritage River Journeys Private Limited, which operates under the brand Antara River Cruises. The vessels are intended for deployment on the Brahmaputra River.
The agreement covers the construction of the first vessel, along with a Letter of Intent for the second. The contract was signed by Sanil Peter, CEO of Hooghly CSL, and Raj Singh, Founder and Chairman of Antara River Cruises, in the presence of Madhu S. Nair, Chairman and Managing Director of Cochin Shipyard Limited, along with senior officials from both companies.
According to the announcement, these vessels are expected to be among the first luxury river cruise vessels classified under the Inland Vessels (IV) Rules, 2022, and among the first of their kind to operate on the Brahmaputra River.
Heritage River Journeys currently operates luxury cruises along the Ganga, Padma, and Brahmaputra river systems. Its fleet includes Ganga Vilas, a cruise covering over 3,200 kilometres across 27 rivers and regions such as the Gangetic plains, the Sundarbans, and the Brahmaputra Valley.
Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Limited focuses on the construction and repair of inland and coastal vessels. It operates as a subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited.
