Aisin Automotive India Private Limited, the Indian arm of Japan-based Aisin Corporation, has leased industrial land at the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) estate in Shendra, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, for a period of 95 years to set up a new manufacturing unit.

The upcoming facility will be Aisin Automotive India’s second plant in the country. The company’s first plant in India is in Rohtak, Haryana.

Aisin Corporation was recently selected by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) under the Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Project Subsidy Program for its project titled “Overseas Production Demonstration of Japan-Quality Automatic Transmissions in India.” The project will involve the local production of continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) at Aisin Automotive Haryana Private Limited, its existing subsidiary in India.

The initiative aims to demonstrate the feasibility of manufacturing Japanese-quality CVTs in India at lower costs while promoting localisation through partnerships with domestic suppliers. Aisin stated that the project represents a major upfront investment with a long-term recovery horizon and technical challenges, being its first overseas CVT production venture. Support from the Japanese government will help mitigate associated risks and accelerate commercialisation.

The company said it expects the project to boost domestic demand and production, increase exports of parts from Japan, and create local employment opportunities. The adoption of fuel-efficient CVTs is also expected to help reduce vehicle emissions, contributing to global carbon neutrality efforts.

Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar—formerly known as Aurangabad—is a manufacturing hub for global automakers and component suppliers. The region is already home to facilities of Bajaj Auto, Skoda, Audi, and Volkswagen, while Toyota is in the process of establishing a new plant there. The new Aisin plant is Inspira City’s second-largest lease and its second Japanese client, following NHK Springs Co.

Aisin Corporation, headquartered in Kariya, Japan, is a tier-1 supplier of drivetrain, brake, and chassis systems to major global automobile manufacturers. The company operates more than 200 consolidated subsidiaries worldwide.
