BEML Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co. Ltd (KSOE) and HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) to jointly design, develop, manufacture, integrate, install, and commission a new generation of maritime and port cranes in India. The agreement was formalised on 05 December 2025 in Bengaluru. The partnership aims to support India’s plans for expanded port capacity and enhanced maritime infrastructure.

According to the information provided, the collaboration covers both conventional and autonomous crane systems that will be manufactured domestically, along with after-sales service, spares, and training support. The initiative aligns with India’s broader maritime development vision and seeks to strengthen domestic capabilities in high-technology port equipment.

The three companies intend to combine BEML’s manufacturing base with the technical expertise of KSOE and HSHI to support port modernisation, shipyard automation, and cargo-handling infrastructure. The partnership is expected to reduce import dependence and enable production of advanced crane systems suited to the country’s evolving maritime requirements. Planned localisation of manufacturing is also expected to support private industry and create additional employment.

BEML stated that its Maritime Strategic Business Unit continues to supply shipbuilding support systems, material handling equipment, and specialised marine engineering solutions. KSOE contributes shipbuilding and marine engineering expertise, while HSHI brings experience in industrial and port crane design and automation.

The MoU was formalized at BEML’s headquarters in Bengaluru in the presence of Shantanu Roy, CMD, BEML, and representatives from HD KSOE including Han Nae Choi (Senior Vice President, Corporate Planning Division) and Young Hoon Kwon, Director of Global Business, and from HD Samho including Jong Ho Park, Head of Crane and Industrial Plant Department. The MoU was signed by Cmde RGK Rao, Head – Maritime SBU, BEML, and officials of KSOE and HSHI.
