MEI, an optical machinery manufacturer based in Italy, has inaugurated a new fully automated lens edging and finishing facility in Bengaluru, India. The launch also marks the official establishment of its Indian subsidiary.
The facility features machinery capable of cutting and processing up to eight lenses simultaneously. It supports various lens types, including rimless and supra grooves, and offers customization options such as diamond-cut engraving of names, logos, and brands. Each lens undergoes power verification before and after cutting, with automated checks for circumference, axis, and box size.
The Bengaluru facility uses fully automated systems aimed at reducing manual intervention and enhancing process consistency. The company stated that the investment reflects its strategy to expand operations in India and collaborate with local stakeholders in the optical industry.
The inauguration ceremony, held on July 4 and 5, included a lamp-lighting ritual led by the MEI President and was attended by industry leaders, partner companies, and other representatives from the optical sector.
