ABB India has reduced Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 92% at its Nelamangala manufacturing facility in Bangalore, compared to 2019 levels. The company reports that the site now operates on 100% renewable electricity and recycles 88% of its water usage.

According to the company, more than 99% of waste generated at the site is either recycled through authorized partners or processed through waste-to-energy recovery methods, minimizing landfill disposal. The Nelamangala campus provides electrification, motion, robotics, and automation systems for industrial applications.

The company stated that rainwater harvesting and on-site recycling efforts have contributed to an increase of over 30 meters in the local groundwater table. Since 2021, the campus has applied a six-part strategy for water management, including rainwater harvesting, real-time monitoring, and reduction and reuse processes.

Saju SR, Senior Vice President of ABB Electrification, Smart Power Division, said, “The transformation of our Nelamangala facility is a key part of our commitment to sustainability and supports India’s vision for more sustainable manufacturing. We’ve empowered our local team to create an innovative approach to reduce emissions and waste. Water-stress is a key challenge in the region, so the team has also focused on water recycling and rainwater harvesting, helping to replenish local groundwater levels by more than 30 meters.”

ABB noted that the Nelamangala campus is the company’s second site in India to be designated under its “Mission to Zero” initiative, which involves using digital energy monitoring tools and sustainability practices to reduce emissions and resource consumption across facilities globally.
