Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Hindustan Shipyard Limited to form a consortium to bid for a shipbuilding tender issued by the Shipping Corporation of India Limited.

The agreement is intended to enable the two public sector shipyards to jointly submit a bid in line with the terms and conditions specified in the SCI tender. The development is relevant in the context of collaborative execution of large shipbuilding programmes involving multiple public sector yards.

The memorandum of understanding has been executed to form a consortium specifically for submitting a bid against the tender issued by the Shipping Corporation of India Limited.

The company said the consortium is aimed at undertaking a large-scale national shipbuilding programme. The proposed collaboration envisages the construction of advanced maritime platforms and is expected to involve joint participation by both shipyards in programme execution.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd.), Director (Shipbuilding) of GRSE, and Capt Ganti Venkateswarlu, IN (Retd.), Officiating Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Shipyard Limited. The signing took place in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.

The collaboration is intended to leverage the complementary capabilities of the two shipyards.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited is a defence public sector undertaking under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence. The company is engaged in shipbuilding, ship repair, and engineering activities and operates multiple shipbuilding facilities in Kolkata.
