Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) commissioned a 5 megawatt (MW) ground-mounted solar power plant and inaugurated a 30-ton electric arc furnace at its manufacturing facility in Haridwar on 12 March 2026. The company also flagged off an upgraded Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM) for the Indian Navy and dispatched a turbo generator for a power project from the facility.

According to an official statement, the developments highlight activities at the BHEL Haridwar complex across renewable energy generation, metallurgical manufacturing and defence equipment production.

The solar power project installed at the facility consists of more than 11,000 solar modules and is expected to generate around 9 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. “Privileged to dedicate the 5 MW Ground Mounted Solar Power Plant to the nation. With over 11,000 solar modules and annual generation of around 90 lakh kWh, the project will contribute to clean energy generation while reducing carbon emissions,” said H. D. Kumaraswamy, Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries.

The company also inaugurated a 30-ton electric arc furnace at the Central Foundry and Forge Plant in Haridwar to strengthen metallurgical production capabilities for industrial components. “Inaugurated the 30T Electric Arc Furnace at the Central Foundry & Forge Plant of BHEL in Haridwar, strengthening India’s critical foundry and forging capabilities. This facility represents a major step forward in enhancing indigenous manufacturing capacity for advanced industrial applications,” Kumaraswamy said.

During the visit, the upgraded Super Rapid Gun Mount for the Indian Navy was flagged off from the facility. The naval weapon system is capable of firing up to 120 rounds per minute and has a firing range of up to 35 kilometres for anti-aircraft and anti-surface operations.

The event also included the dispatch of a turbo generator manufactured at the Haridwar complex for a power project. The equipment is part of the turbines and generators produced at the facility for electricity generation infrastructure.

The BHEL Haridwar complex includes the Heavy Electrical Equipment Plant, which manufactures turbines and generators for thermal power stations, and the Central Foundry and Forge Plant, which produces large castings and forgings for heavy engineering applications.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited is a government-owned engineering and manufacturing company that produces power generation equipment and industrial systems used in sectors including electricity generation, heavy engineering and defence manufacturing.
