Jindal Stainless has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra to set up a 4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) stainless steel manufacturing facility in Raigad. The project involves an investment of INR 415.8 billion and is expected to generate over 15,500 jobs.

The facility aims to expand the company’s stainless steel production capacity to meet demand from infrastructure, automotive, and industrial sectors. Development of this plant is expected to continue over the next decade and the first phase operational within four years.

The MoU was signed on September 19 at AIIFA Steelex 2025 in Mumbai, in the presence of Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra; Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Coal and Mines; and Uday Samant, Industries Minister of Maharashtra.

Jindal Stainless operates as a major stainless steel manufacturer in India, with primary manufacturing operations at two flagship plants in Hisar, Haryana, and Jajpur, Odisha, and plans for a third facility in Maharashtra.

The Hisar plant, established in 1975, is one of India’s first integrated stainless steel facilities and has a current capacity of 0.8 MTPA. It produces stainless steel strips for razor blades and coin blanks, serving both domestic and industrial applications. The Jajpur plant began operations in 2011 and has a melting capacity of 2.2–2.1 MTPA. It is equipped with facilities for melting, casting, hot and cold rolling, value addition, and operates its own captive power unit.

Jindal Stainless manufactures a range of products including stainless steel slabs, hot and cold rolled coils, plates, blooms, coin blanks, precision strips, and specialty products for industrial and high-end applications. Combined, the Hisar and Jajpur plants offer a melting capacity of 3 MTPA, with a planned increase to 4.2 MTPA by FY27. The Jajpur site also includes a ferro alloys facility with an annual capacity of around 284,675 tonnes.

The company has incorporated sustainability measures in its operations, including an off-grid green hydrogen-based stainless steel plant in Hisar and a 300 MW wind-solar hybrid renewable project in collaboration with ReNew Power at Jajpur.

The company’s manufacturing complexes use advanced technology from leading providers and are designed for both backward and forward integration to improve efficiency and value addition. Jindal Stainless also maintains an international presence, including operations in Indonesia and overseas offices supporting global business activities.

Jindal Stainless continues to expand its integrated and technology-driven operations across India, with strategic plans for growth in Maharashtra and abroad.
