Maxion Wheels, a global manufacturer of wheels for vehicles ranging from passenger cars to commercial trucks and trailers, in collaboration with the Iochpe Foundation from Brazil and Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), has inaugurated its first Formare program in Asia. The launch was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Formare Learning Center in Pune, India.

Formare, an academic scholarship program in Brazil and Mexico, has now made its debut in India. This first class comprises 26 students from the Economic Weaker Section (EWS) who will participate in a two-year academic and industrial training program. The students began their education at SPPU in July, and are now continuing their professional training at Kalyani Maxion Wheels’ manufacturing facility in Pune.

“The launch of Formare in India is a significant milestone for our company, reflecting Iochpe-Maxion’s commitment to changing lives through education and opportunities,” said Marcos Oliveira, President and CEO of Iochpe-Maxion, and Chairman of the Iochpe Foundation. “For over 35 years, we have successfully combined academic learning with hands-on industry experience for thousands of students in Brazil and Mexico. We are excited to bring this transformative program to India.”

Pieter Klinkers, CEO of Maxion Wheels, emphasized the company’s focus on community impact. “Our people and culture are central to everything we do, from employee inclusion to addressing the needs of the communities around us. The goal of Formare is to improve the employability of underprivileged youth, especially here in the Pune region. I am incredibly proud of our company and the many volunteers who contribute to creating a better future for all of us.”

Sutheep Ratnabhas, President of Maxion Wheels’ Asia business unit, explained Formare’s distinct approach. “Unlike many scholarship programs, Formare is not designed to train students solely for future roles at our company. Instead, we aim to equip participants with broad skills and industry knowledge, enhancing their overall employability across various sectors.”

On expanding the program to India, Claudio Anjos, President of the Iochpe Foundation, said, “Maxion Wheels has been a key partner in our efforts for nearly 25 years in Brazil and Mexico. By providing education and professional training to those who need it most, Formare has the power to transform lives.”

Suresh Gosavi, Vice Chancellor of SPPU, also expressed enthusiasm for the partnership. “We are honored to work with Maxion Wheels on this initiative, providing academic support for Formare students here at our university. The program’s comprehensive support—covering financial, logistical, and educational needs—allows students to fully concentrate on their personal and professional growth.”

India was chosen as the third country to host Formare, aligning with the nation’s EWS and skill development programs. Maxion Wheels is providing a full academic scholarship, which covers 100% of tuition fees, as well as uniforms, transportation, meals, and a monthly stipend. Upon completing the program, students will earn a diploma in Manufacturing Technology, opening doors to numerous career opportunities.
