Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has commenced production of its new sub-4-meter SUV, the Škoda Kylaq, at its Chakan manufacturing facility in Pune. The company has increased the plant’s production capacity by 30%, bringing its annual output to 255,000 units.
This expansion includes operational enhancements that allow the production line to achieve 40 jobs per hour. SAVWIPL has also increased its local supplier base by 10%, aligning with its focus on localization under India’s “Make in India” initiative. The Kylaq is the fifth vehicle produced on the MQB-A0-IN platform, which features high levels of localization.
The company emphasized its efforts in sustainable manufacturing, incorporating eco-friendly materials such as bamboo fiber into the Kylaq’s cabin.
Andreas Dick, Škoda Auto’s Board Member for Production and Logistics, attributed the vehicle’s rollout to collaboration between Indian and Czech teams, highlighting efforts to maintain quality and efficiency standards.
To support its expanding operations, SAVWIPL plans to increase its sales and service network to 350 outlets by 2025, including coverage in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
Deliveries of the Škoda Kylaq are expected to begin in January 2025, with prices starting at ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The company continues to focus on localization, efficiency, and sustainable manufacturing to strengthen its position in the Indian market.
