Škoda Auto Volkswagen India has reached a production milestone with the rollout of its 500,000th locally manufactured engine from the Chakan facility in Pune. The milestone unit was a 1.0-liter TSI engine.

The company has been manufacturing engines at the Chakan plant since 2014, with a focus on localization and adherence to global quality and emission standards. According to Andreas Dick, Škoda Auto a.s. Board Member for Production and Logistics, investments in technology and workforce development have contributed to the company’s production capabilities.

Managing Director and CEO Piyush Arora stated that the high degree of localization in the company’s engines supports the automotive manufacturing and supply ecosystem in India.

The company’s Chakan plant is a key part of its export operations, with around 25-30% of production being shipped to global markets, including Latin America, Africa, and the ASEAN region. Mexico is one of the primary export destinations. Models such as the Volkswagen Virtus and T-Cross (sold as Taigun in India) have been notable export products.

Škoda Auto Volkswagen India oversees the operations of Škoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini in the country. The company operates manufacturing facilities in Pune and Aurangabad.
