Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has been allocated 827 acres of land in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to establish a greenfield manufacturing facility for electric and hybrid vehicles. The land was allotted as part of an ongoing development in the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), specifically in the Bidkin node of a “greenfield smart industrial city,” according to officials involved in the project.

The initiative follows a formal agreement between TKM and the Maharashtra state government, signed on July 31. The project is being developed through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), the Maharashtra Industrial Township Limited (MITL), a joint venture between the Central and Maharashtra governments. The DMIC official noted that nodes in Shendra and Bidkin are under development as part of this larger industrial corridor.

TKM is expected to invest Rs 21,000 crore in the new facility. Construction is set to begin shortly, with production scheduled to start by January 2026. The plant is projected to have an annual manufacturing capacity of 4 lakh electric and hybrid vehicles.

The facility is anticipated to generate significant employment in the region, creating 8,000 direct jobs and 18,000 indirect jobs.

The development is seen as part of broader efforts to boost India’s electric vehicle production capacity, contributing to the growth of the country’s automotive sector.
